Among all of the areas that VR will touch -- an addressable market that makes it so opportune -- entertainment will be one of the biggest. It will also be one of the first.
Though VR will have lots of applications such as education, enterprise, design and commerce, we know it more for its early-stage consumer-facing areas like gaming and entertainment.
But even within these earlier-stage and "sexier" areas of VR market growth, there are still challenges and bottlenecks such as content creation and ecosystem development
With that backdrop, Orange Silicon Valley hosts Through the looking glass: Hollywood & Silicon Valley get immersive. It will explore areas where Hollywood and Silicon Valley meet.
Taking place next Wednesday May 11 in San Francisco, there will be speakers, demos and lots of networking. The program goals include (in the event's own words):
- Supporting the investment ecosystem around VR content
- Fostering more discussion and collaboration between Silicon Valley & Hollywood
- Engaging and inspiring 3rd party content creators
Speakers include Tony Parisi, VP of platform products at Wevr; Seth Shapiro, two-time Emmy Award winner; and Daniel Engelhardt, Lionsgate director of Interactive Ventures and VR.
The VR/AR Association will also be present and I'd love to meet you if you plan to attend.
