This invitation is extended on behalf of the VR/AR Association, Criminal Justice Committee. Newly formed in 2017, under VRARA, the role of this exciting committee is the study and direction of policy and practices with virtual reality, augmented reality and mixed reality and its applications in the field of criminal justice. This includes a broad range of uses such as investigations, future courtroom applications and rehabilitation.
While most of the public may have some idea about virtual reality (mainly for games and entertainment), there is no true widespread recognition of how these technologies will completely change the way we live and interact.
Our goal is to be at the forefront in this area relating to criminal justice and we would like you to participate in a forward, long-range discussion on this emerging technology and the implications regarding policy and best practices.
Multiple law enforcement agencies, entrepreneurial start-ups, non-profits and corporations from the United States and Canada will meet in Jersey City for a first of its kind seminar and discussion on the impact emerging technologies, specifically Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality will have on the Criminal Justice System.
The meeting will present demonstrations of the latest technology, including laser scanners from event co-sponsor FARO Technologies and Factual VR whose developing technology allows law enforcement to complete exact replications of a crime scene for aid in investigations, preservation and future testimony in court.
Anticipated topics will range from investigations - to use of virtual reality with a jury in a trial - to use of the technology assisting those in rehabilitation/reentry after serving time in prison.
