Raj Puran is Director of Business Development and Strategic Partnerships, part of the Client Computing Group (CCG) in the Virtual Reality, Gaming and Esports group (VRGE) at Intel Corporation. He is responsible for defining and executing on VRGE’s strategy for Location Based Entertainment and World Wide Commercial VR Experiences. Puran has also executive produce several highly immersive VR experiences with the Smithsonian American Art Museum and several higher education programs including the University of Texas and Texas A&M University. Puran joined Intel in 1995 as a co-op software engineer for the Information Technology group. He has held various development and engineering roles at Intel spanning server CPU technology, enterprise solutions, desktop client, communications, film production technology, content creation and audio technology. Before assuming his current position, Puran was business development manager for the Enthusiast Desktop business segment of CCG, working on audio, film and VR content creation and consumption segments. He holds several patents in audio and video technology and has also represented Intel in many public appearances and at conferences where he has delivered many keynote speeches. His high profile work has been instrumental in the introduction of Intel VR to the general public, the museum industry and has led partnerships with many key players in the VR industry. Puran also is a key advisor to the Intel Capital team on strategic investments in VR. Puran holds two Bachelor’s degrees in Computer Science from U.C. Dr. Alan Winter is British Columbia’s first Innovation Commissioner. Dr. Winter has wide experience at senior levels in the technology sector and in government, including such roles as the President and CEO of Genome BC from 2001 to 2016, the founding President and CEO of the New Media Innovation Centre in Vancouver, the President of the ComDev Space Group in Ontario, and the President and CEO of MPR Teltech Ltd. in Vancouver. During his tenure as CEO, six companies were spun out of MPR, including PMC-Sierra and Sierra Wireless. Prior to MPR, Dr. Winter worked for Telesat Canada and the federal Communications Research Centre in Ottawa, where he was responsible for the satellite-aided search and rescue project (SARSAT). The international COSPAS/SARSAT system continues to be instrumental in saving many lives. Alan Winter is currently a director of the Victoria Hospitals Foundation, Ontario Genomics and Geoscience BC, an adjunct professor at UVic’s Gustavson School of Business, and a member of UBC’s Research and Innovation Council. In 2007, Dr Winter received a Leadership Award from LifeSciences BC, and in 2017 he received the Don Rix Award for Lifetime Achievement. He has served as a director of over 30 organizations, including the BC Business Council and Alberta Innovates. On the federal side, he was Chair of the board of the Communications Research Centre (CRC), Deputy Chair of the Council of Science and Technology Advisors (CSTA), and a member of the Expert Panel on Research Performance and Science Funding, Council of Canadian Academies. John Penn is CEO of InspireVR, a mixed reality (VR/AR/XR) video telepresence, 360 3D VR live-streaming + content experience company, which enables immersive collaboration, accelerated learning, and produces cinematic virtual reality experiences, increasing content engagement, scalable delivery and revenue share. John has produced Billboard #1 and Top 20 charting hits for acts including KEM (Motown/Universal), Holy Hip Hop/EMI, U.N.V.(Maverick/Warner Brothers), Q-Bik Muz and many other artists, with a Grammy nomination in 2005 and a Stellar Award nomination in 2006. Partnered with Samsung Emerging Product Division, and NextComputing, John is leading the design and launch of the first dedicated mobile mixed reality film production truck in the southeast US, capable of both onsite/remote mixed reality and 4K 2D/3D film production. John’ unique mix of entrepreneurship and technical leadership has contributed to the success of multiple establish technology and communications enterprises and start-ups including Olympus Medical Systems Group (Smart Operating Rooms in healthcare), Cox Business (Healthcare telepresence) & Intelsat (Media Platforms, IP over Satellite, OTT/CDN) He holds a bachelor’s of science degree in Pre-med Chemistry from Alcorn State University and studied two years at Wayne State School of Medicine, towards a Doctorate of Medicine degree. John's experience in healthcare, music, technology and years of research has led him to his passion project Wellodi, a music therapy telepresence platform currently in incubation.
